A strategic analysis is an external review of what is happening in the environment in which your organization operates now, as well as short, medium and long term futures.It requires looking at several situations:
- What is happening now that may impact the organization
- What might happen that could impact the organization
- What is the organizations response likely to be to change?
- How well prepared are the people in the organization to respond to change?
The purpose of analyze current state is to understand the reasons why company needs to change some aspect of how it operates and what would be directly or indirectly by the change.
The purpose of define future state is to decide the necessary conditions to meet the business needs. All purposeful change must include a definition of success. There are lots of things can change, such as changing a step in a process or removing a feature from an existing application.
The purpose of assess risks is understand the undesirable consequences of internal and external forces.
The risks are analyzed for the:
- possible consequences if the risk occurs
- impact of those consequences
- likelihood of the risk
- potential time frame when the risk might occur
The change strategy clearly describes the nature of the change in terms of:
- context of the change
- identified alternative change strategies
- investment and resources required to work toward the future state
- how the enterprise will realize value after the solution is delivered
- key stakeholders in the change
- transition states along the way
